OPEN SPACE REPORT FORM
Topic Name: OST for Beginners
Convenor: Big Brother

·       OST is not a certification program
·       There are books and internet resources on the process
·       To understand the principles of OST and to have a good open heart…that’s all you need to start the process.
·       Two things about people:
o  Some of us take time to think. In such case, the facilitator must wait…you really can’t force people to talk
o  Work with a partner in facilitating OS. Find someone who can provide you with emotional and spiritual support. Someone to reflect things with.
·       It wouldn’t take long for people to come together in an OST gathering. It is less structured and less formal.
·       Make the gathering very simple. People need an honest invitation.
·       Make sure the people trust the sponsor
·       Go for a sponsor with an issue or an idea to promote and decide whether OST is an appropriate response
·       When to use OST:
o  Person who makes the request has urgent need
o  There’s no answer in sight
o  Need a diverse group where no one person or group has the answer
·       Pre-work takes time (pre-work with senior person)
·       World Café can be used to prepare group for OS (3 rounds in some cases)
·       For topic choice, develop that which excites people to attend
·       OST is by invitation- leaves option for people to decide
·       It is self-organizing, less facilitation and less work
·       In corporate situation, the facilitator should be ready to hold the space
·       The gatherings objective is inherent in the theme
·      OST works!!!
