How To Enrol People In OS
Participants : Bhav, David, Alan, Tim, Yogee
- Open your mind, very important at start
- Different places to start depending on audience and context, could be criteria, process, rapid generation of agenda, etc
- 2 ways to gain access to a CEO
o Personal invitation by CEO
o Staff member persuades CEO
- Wearing corporate hat
o Channel for dialogue amongst diverse people
o CSR, sustainability
o OST good way to jump start dialogue
- Amazing way to get buy in including people in decision making process
- Clarifying what people want to achieve, and what action we will take as a consequence
- Facilitator establishes if this is a serious exercise
- Talk to CEO first and then senior management team
- Shift conversation from a transaction mentality i.e. the facilitator is providing OST, and will do it to the organisation for a certain cost
o It is about a new way of relating to each other
o Where is the pain? Why am I here? How is the present situation working for you? How would it be if it continued for another 3 years? What are predictable outcomes
- OST can be threatening
- If they are asking the questions, then they want to something and we can help them create new options and possibilities
- Be aware of how close to retirement the CEO is, lip service but not really interested in change
- OST criteria
o Something big at stake
o Potential for conflict
o Deadline of yesterday
o Nobody knows the answer
o Diverse, complex
o Unpredictable, often with more than 30 people
